PRESS: Huawei intends to take part in Russia’s state cloud project

MOSCOW, Sep 20 (PRIME) -- Huawei, hit by U.S. restrictions, plans jointly with Russian state-controlled telecom operator Rostelecom and IT firm AxxonSoft to create a local solution on the basis of servers for corporate clients and the state sector, including for national project Digital Economy, business daily Kommersant reported on Friday.

Huawei will supply servers under brand Taishan to provider of cloud services Tionix, a unit of Rostelecom, to design a local solution for state and private clients, the companies’ people told Kommersant.

A Huawei spokesperson said development of relations was pushed forward by a project of Russian national program Digital Economy aimed at creation of a localized platform of a single cloud.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev approved a concept of creation of the state single cloud platform on August 28, and Rostelecom was appointed as one of the responsible for the initiative. Transfer of information resources of state entities to the platform by December 31, 2024 will consume 47.6 billion rubles, including 6.5 billion rubles from the federal budget.

Huawei also signed with AxxonSoft an agreement of intent to develop a joint solution on the basis of servers.
